Deputy Heads Message

As we begin the final half term of the academic year, I would like to extend a warm welcome back to all our students, families, and staff. This week has focused on settling back into routines, re-establishing positive learning habits, and preparing for our end of year assessments, which begin on Sunday.

As students prepare for these assessments, we encourage families to support revision at home. However, it is equally important to remember that good nutrition, regular hydration, and sufficient sleep play a vital role in students' wellbeing, concentration, and overall readiness to learn. A balanced approach will help ensure that every child is able to perform to the best of their ability.

I would also like to take this opportunity to congratulate our entire school community on a fantastic achievement. We are incredibly proud to have been awarded the Gold Award from the Ministry of Education and Higher Education in recognition of our commitment to promoting and embedding Qatar Values throughout the academic year. This prestigious award reflects the collective efforts of our students, staff, and families in fostering respect, responsibility, integrity, and community spirit. Thank you for your continued support in helping us nurture these important values in our children.

We look forward to a productive and successful final half term together.

Miss Kim

🦋🐛 The Very Hungry Caterpillar Adventure 🐛🦋

This week in preschool, we had a wonderful time exploring The Very Hungry Caterpillar by Eric Carle. 📚✨ The children were captivated by the colourful illustrations and eagerly followed the caterpillar’s journey as it hatched from an egg, searched for food, and transformed into a beautiful butterfly. Through storytelling and discussion, the children developed their listening, communication, and comprehension skills while learning about the fascinating life cycle of a butterfly. 🥚➡️🐛➡️🦋

🔢 Maths Fun! 🔢

Using the story as inspiration, we enjoyed a variety of mathematical activities. The children practiced counting the different foods the caterpillar ate, recognizing numbers, comparing quantities, and sequencing events from the story. 🍎🍐🍓🍊

🤝 Building Teamwork Skills 🤝

Working together was an important focus throughout the week. The children collaborated in small groups to complete caterpillar crafts, create colourful butterfly artwork, and participate in interactive games. 🎨✂️

✨ It has been a joyful week of storytelling, maths discovery, creativity, and teamwork as we journeyed alongside our very hungry caterpillar! 🐛🍎🦋

Reception

This week in Reception, we have continued our Once Upon a Time topic and started learning about a new traditional tale, Goldilocks and the Three Bears. In Literacy, the children have been writing from Goldilocks' point of view, imagining what she might say to the bears when they returned home and discovered what had happened. They have been thinking carefully about her actions and using their ideas to write messages from Goldilocks to the bears.

In Maths, we have been learning about sorting and matching, exploring different ways to group and compare objects.

The children have also taken part in lots of creative activities linked to our story, including making their own Goldilocks and Three Bears characters. We have loved seeing their creativity and enthusiasm throughout the week. Well done!

Year 4

Year 4: A Week of Active Learning!

We have had an incredibly busy and productive week in Year 4! The children have shown fantastic focus across all of their subjects, revisiting key skills in Literacy and exploring fascinating new concepts in Maths, Science and IPC.

Here is a look at what we have been learning this week:

📝 Literacy

Our focus this week has been on vital revision to consolidate our skills. The children have worked hard on:

  • Inverted Commas: Mastering how to use speech marks accurately to show direct dialogue within a text.
  • Setting the Scene: Writing vivid setting descriptions and comparing how different atmospheres are created.
  • Character Profiles: Crafting detailed character descriptions, focusing on choosing impactful vocabulary to bring their characters to life.

📐 Maths

We turned our attention to position and direction this week, developing our spatial awareness and grid skills. The children learnt to:

  • Describe positions and plot points accurately using coordinates on a grid.
  • Understand and show translation, moving shapes and points from one location to another.
  • Describe translations using precise mathematical language (e.g., moving x units left/right and y units up/down).

🌍 IPC (International Primary Curriculum)

Our global journey took us deep into the natural world as we explored biomes. The children have been learning to:

  • Define what a biome is and identify different climate zones across the globe.
  • Explain how temperature and rainfall directly create unique habitats.
  • Match various plants and animals to their correct native biomes based on their adaptations.

🔬 Science

Tying in beautifully with our IPC work, our Science lessons focused on living things and their habitats. The children investigated:

  • How to group living things and explain why certain organisms belong to specific classifications.
  • The ways in which different habitats perfectly provide for the basic needs of the living things that call them home.

Year 5

This week, we began by making predictions about a story based on a film clip. To really get into role, we created and performed freeze frames to help us understand what might happen next and how the characters could be feeling. In our books, we wrote prediction paragraphs using a clear structure and worked hard to include a range of writing features, such as expanded noun phrases and rhetorical questions. This helped us to create more detailed, engaging, and thoughtful predictions supported by evidence from the film.

Year 6

This week has been another busy and productive one in Year 6. In Maths, we have continued our work on statistics, learning how to interpret and create line charts, bar charts, and pie charts. The children have worked extremely hard and shown a strong understanding of these concepts, making this a positive final unit before our end-of-year exams begin. In English, we have been focusing on character descriptions based on Mr. Twit and Mrs. Twit, using a wide range of ambitious vocabulary and descriptive techniques to bring these memorable characters to life in our writing.

Alongside our classroom learning, the children have been busy preparing for a number of exciting events. We had a fantastic Talent Show on Thursday, with some wonderful performances and talented entrants who demonstrated great confidence and creativity. We have also continued preparing for our Year 6 Graduation Assembly, which is now only a few weeks away. The children have been discussing ideas and beginning preparations for what promises to be a very special occasion. In addition, the children have been spending time revising and preparing for their upcoming exams, which begin next week. We are very proud of the effort, maturity, and determination they have shown and wish them every success as they begin their assessments.
