Al Sedra Early Years

Dear Parents,

This week, our school was filled with excitement as students took part in Transition Day, an important step in preparing for the next stage of their learning journey. The day gave students the opportunity to spend time in their new classrooms, meet teachers, and experience what life will be like in their next year group.

For our Year 2 students, the move to Junior School was especially memorable. They embraced the journey with enthusiasm and curiosity, exploring new routines, opportunities, and spaces with growing confidence. It was wonderful to see their excitement as they discovered all that awaits them next year. One of the clear highlights of the day was visiting the canteen, where students enjoyed delicious doughnuts and cookies together. Moments like these help students feel comfortable, connected, and excited about the future.

Transition Day was a wonderful success, and we are incredibly proud of how positively all students approached this new adventure. Photographs from the day can be viewed on each class Dojo page.

Yours faithfully,

Pamela Abbas

This week in Preschool, students enjoyed exploring the phonics sound /l/ for lighthouse. They practised saying the sound, identifying words beginning with /l/, and forming the letter correctly during our phonics activities.

In numeracy, we focused on subitising using dice. Students practised recognising small quantities without counting and enjoyed number games that helped develop quick number recognition skills.

We also continued practising writing our names with correct letter formation and building confidence in holding our pencils carefully.

As part of our occupations topic, students learned about the role of a postal worker. They had great fun writing letters, placing them into envelopes, and posting them in our class post box. This activity encouraged mark making, communication, and imaginative role play.

We are very proud of everyone’s effort and enthusiasm this week.

This week in Reception, students enjoyed reading the story Goldilocks and the Three Bears. They loved listening to the story and talking about the different characters and events. We explored descriptive words such as big, medium, and small and compared the different bowls, chairs and beds from the story.

Students took part in a range of story-based activities, including drawing characters, sequencing the story and acting out their favourite parts through role play. These activities helped to deepen their understanding of the story and encouraged creativity and communication.

One of the highlights of the week was making and tasting porridge, just like in the story. Students helped to prepare the ingredients and talked about different flavours and textures while enjoying this fun, hands-on experience.

This week in Year 1, students continued exploring their exciting topic The Circus is Coming to Town. We began the week with a special visit from Coco the Clown, where students enjoyed watching his amazing tricks and taking part in fun circus games.

During continuous provision, students used their imagination to create their own circus acts and wrote descriptive sentences to describe them. In construction, they designed and built their own tightropes for animals to cross, while in Funky Fingers they created impressive acrobats to perform in the circus.

In art, students enjoyed making an elephant balancing on a ball craft, showing fantastic creativity and fine motor skills throughout the week.

This week in Year 2, students have been learning across science, English and mathematics. In science, they explored what different animal groups need to survive, developing their understanding of habitats and living things.

In English, students focused on punctuation in their writing, working hard to use it accurately to improve the clarity and quality of their sentences.

In mathematics, they have been learning about time, including how to tell the time and understanding how many minutes are in an hour. Students enjoyed practising these skills through a range of practical activities and problem solving.

Alongside their learning, students also spent time preparing for their transition to Year 3, learning more about what to expect and beginning to feel excited about the next stage of their journey.

Throughout the week, students have shown great curiosity, enthusiasm and a positive attitude towards their learning.
