Al Sedra Early Years

Dear Parents,

School uniform is an important part of our school identity and helps to create a sense of belonging, equality, and focus across the learning environment in the Infant School. It is expected that all students wear the correct uniform, including plain black school shoes, which contribute to a smart appearance and are practical for everyday school activities. Plain black trainers are also acceptable; however, these must be completely plain and must not have astro turf-style or heavily ridged soles.

We have also recently noticed an increase in students wearing jewellery that is not part of the approved school uniform. While we understand that jewellery may be worn outside school, it is not permitted during the school day. In busy classroom environments and particularly during PE lessons, jewellery can present a safety risk, as it may get caught, break, or potentially cause injury.

For this reason, we ask that all jewellery is left at home, including rings, bracelets, and necklaces. Clear expectations support consistency and help children develop responsibility.

We kindly ask for your continued support in ensuring that all students follow the school uniform policy. This helps us maintain a safe, focused, and consistent learning environment where all students can thrive.

Yours faithfully,

Pamela Abbas

This week in Preschool, students were excited to learn about occupations. They explored a variety of roles, including doctors, vets, chefs and bakers, through imaginative play and hands on activities.

In the role play areas, students took on the responsibilities of caring professionals. They enjoyed pretending to be doctors and vets, looking after animals and making sure they were healthy and safe.

In the sensory tray, students showed wonderful nurturing skills as they cared for baby dolls by feeding and looking after them thoughtfully.

Our budding chefs and bakers had a fantastic time making pizzas using play dough. They practised shaping, rolling and adding toppings, which supported their fine motor skills and creativity.

Students also made links to maths by painting currant buns as bakers in a bakery and singing number songs up to five. This helped to reinforce counting, number recognition and sequencing in a fun and engaging way.

It has been a joyful and busy week of learning through play.

This week, students have been exploring the traditional tale The Three Billy Goats Gruff. They enjoyed listening to the story, joining in with repeated phrases and discussing the characters. Students talked about the different goats and the troll and shared their ideas about what might happen next. Some students acted out the story, showing great imagination and confidence. Students also enjoyed painting their own trolls, showing creativity and enthusiasm as they brought their ideas to life.

In Maths, students have been focusing on addition and subtraction. They used practical resources such as counters and ten frames to help them understand how numbers can be combined and taken away. Students were encouraged to explain their thinking and solve simple number problems in a fun and engaging way.

This week in Year 1, students continued exploring their exciting circus topic. In IPC, students designed their own colourful circus posters, using their creativity to advertise their shows. During continuous provision, they worked collaboratively to build a train to transport circus animals, developing their imagination and teamwork skills.

In Maths, students focused on revising how to find half of an amount and began learning how to find a quarter. They used practical resources to support their understanding and build confidence with fractions.
