Dear Parents, Last week, Juniors came together to celebrate Book Week, and it was fantastic to see such enthusiasm for reading across the school. From creative classroom door displays to the ever-popular Masked Reader, Spelling Bee, and Reading Café, pupils fully immersed themselves in a wide range of engaging literacy activities. The effort that went into costumes on dress-up day was outstanding, with children proudly showcasing their favourite characters. Most importantly, the week reinforced the joy and importance of reading. It was clear to see how stories continue to inspire creativity, build confidence, and develop a lifelong love of learning. A huge thank you to staff and parents for supporting such a memorable week—this is exactly the kind of experience that brings learning to life. Attendance Highlights It is important that we continue to prioritise strong attendance across the school to support pupils’ progress and achievement. Well done to these classes for their strong attendance this week—let’s keep pushing towards and beyond our 90% expectation. Yours faithfully, Mr. Gary |

Last week we had an amazing World Book Week! Our whole year text is a great mystery book called Crater Lake by Jenifer Killack. The book focussed on a school trip that goes very wrong. We did all our Guided Reading around this text, our IPC, our Science and computing. In Science, we did a crater experiment where we weighed rocks and dropped them into a tray of flour, glitter and coco powder. We then measure the craters rays to see the link between a meteorites weight and size and the crater it makes. In IPC we looked as a birds eye map of a crater lake and learnt how to read it. We then all decorated our doors to represent the book and its plot and had a whole school competition.
The children had lots of opportunities to read throughout the week, including our reading café. The children dressed up as their favourite book characters on Thursday.

Throughout the day, pupils took part in a variety of engaging, reading-focused activities designed to promote a love of books and storytelling. One of the highlights was the Spelling Bee, where children showcased their vocabulary skills and competed enthusiastically in front of their peers. It was wonderful to see such confidence and determination on display. The Reading Café provided a calm and inviting space for pupils to relax with a book, share stories with friends, and enjoy the simple pleasure of reading together. Meanwhile, the ever-popular Masked Reader activity kept everyone guessing, as children and staff tried to identify mystery readers hidden behind disguises. In addition to these events, classes participated in a range of creative literacy activities, further reinforcing the importance of reading both in school and at home. World Book Day was a fantastic celebration of reading across GES Juniors. The enthusiasm shown by the children was outstanding, and it was clear that stories continue to play an important role in inspiring curiosity, creativity, and a lifelong love of learning.
