School Leadership Team

That’s Week 6 complete, and it has certainly been another busy and productive one! There is a wonderful sense of routine and positivity across the school; our students have settled beautifully into their learning, and their enthusiasm in the classroom each day is a joy to see.

Celebrating Our Community

This week was packed with memorable moments that brought our school community together:

  • Book Week: This was a clear highlight! The excitement of dressing up as favorite story characters brought so much energy to the halls. It was fantastic to see the students' creativity and, more importantly, their growing passion for storytelling.
  • Earth Day: We spent time reflecting on the world around us. Through various activities, students explored how small, simple actions can lead to a big impact, encouraging them to think about their own contributions to the planet.

Important Reminders

As we move forward, we have a few practical updates to ensure the school day runs smoothly:

  • Beating the Heat: We have seen a noticeable rise in temperatures. To keep everyone safe and comfortable during outdoor learning and continuous provision, please ensure your child comes to school with a sun hat and a refillable water bottle.
  • Punctuality Matters: It has been encouraging to see a decrease in late arrivals—thank you for your efforts here! Please continue to prioritize arriving before 7:40am. These early Phonics and reading lessons are essential foundations that help children access the rest of the curriculum independently.

Thank you for your continued support in making this such a lovely week at school. We look forward to seeing that same engagement and spirit as we head into next week!

In Maths 🔢, we have been exploring patterns and 2D shapes 🔺🔵⬛, identifying and creating our own designs.

In PSED 🌱, we are learning about kindness and responsibility, focusing on how to care for animals 🐶🐼 and the people in our community 🤝.

It has been a fun-filled and meaningful week of learning and discovery ✨!

Year 1

🌟 What a Wonderful Week in Year 1! 🌟

We have had such a busy and exciting week in Year 1!

📚 Literacy: This week, we have been learning all about different prefixs e.g. “un-” and how adding it to the beginning of a word can change its meaning. The children loved exploring new vocabulary, playing word games, and becoming word detectives to spot prefix words in their reading and writing! ✏️🔍

🔢 Maths: In Maths, we have been working on tens to 100. The children have been practising counting in tens, recognising number patterns, and building their confidence with larger numbers. They have shown fantastic perseverance and are becoming much more secure when working with numbers to 100! 🔢

🏖️ IPC: In IPC, we have continued our beach topic and have been discussing how we can keep beaches clean. The children had some brilliant ideas about protecting our environment and understanding why it is so important to look after our world.🌍💙

🦁 Science: In Science, we have been learning about carnivores and discovering which animals eat meat. The children were fascinated by the different animals we explored and loved sharing their own animal facts with the class! We have some future zoologists in the making! 🐯🦅🦁

Year 2

This week in Year 2 🌟

In Maths, the children explored a range of fractions ➗. They learnt how to find the whole, identified unit and non-unit fractions, and recognised the equivalence of a half and two quarters. The children used practical resources and visual models to deepen their understanding and explain their thinking.

In Literacy, the children moved on to inventing their own problem and resolution tales ✏️. Using the structure of our model text, they planned and developed their own creative stories, focusing on clear sequencing and exciting ideas.

In Science, we explored what wildlife does for us 🌿. The children learnt that wildlife includes plants and animals that are not looked after by humans, and discussed how humans, animals and plants all depend on each other for survival. We also began thinking about the wildlife we can find in our local environment.

Year 2 have also enjoyed Reading in the library 📚, showing enthusiasm and confidence as they shared their reading.

Another busy week of learning in Year 2! ✨

Year 3

This week, we have had a fantastic time in our learning. In Science, the children explored magnets and had the opportunity to use a variety of different types. They investigated which materials are magnetic and which are non-magnetic, developing their understanding through hands-on exploration. The iron filings were a particular highlight, as the children were fascinated watching how they were attracted to the magnets and observing the different strengths of each one.

In Maths, we continued our topic on time. While this has been challenging at times, the children showed great perseverance and determination. They worked hard to build their confidence in telling the time and should feel very proud of their efforts.

In Literacy, I thoroughly enjoyed reading the children’s independent writing about their “best invention.” Their creativity truly shone through, with ideas ranging from fire engines to telephones. It was wonderful to see them applying their writing skills while letting their imaginations run wild.

Year 4

In Science this week, our students became sound investigators as they explored how vibrations travel through different materials. They placed a range of materials over instruments to test whether the vibrations could pass through and compared the sounds produced. Using decibel meters, they carefully measured the volume of each sound and recorded their findings. This hands-on investigation helped students develop their enquiry skills while deepening their understanding of how sound travels through vibrations.

Year 5

In Science, we explored Friction and learned how it affects objects by slowing them down, generating heat, and providing grip between surfaces.

Year 6

This week in Maths, the children have continued their work on angles, building their confidence and accuracy. They have explored the angles within a triangle, learning that they add up to 180 degrees, and investigated how opposite angles are equal. The children have also developed their practical skills by using protractors to measure angles carefully and accurately, showing great focus and perseverance.

In English, we have been focusing on persuasive writing. The children have explored a range of persuasive techniques and vocabulary, learning how language can be used to influence and convince others. They have begun applying these skills in their own writing, thinking carefully about how to present strong arguments and engage their reader effectively.

In Reading, the children completed a non-fiction text about volcanoes, where they developed their understanding of how volcanoes form and the impact they can have on the environment and people. They answered a range of comprehension questions and were introduced to new vocabulary linked to this topic.

In Science, we have been learning about the heart and its important role in the human body. The children explored the different parts of the heart and began to understand how it works to pump blood around the body, linking this to our previous learning.

In IPC, we have been examining the effects of climate change, with a particular focus on what could happen if action is not taken soon. The children engaged in thoughtful discussions about the impact on our planet and considered why it is important for people to make responsible choices for the future.

Creative Arts/P.E.

The EYFS preschoolers really enjoyed creating their own dinosaurs. They explored folding techniques to make it look as though the dinosaur’s mouth opened wide to roar. The children used coloured chalk to decorate their creations, experimenting with different colours and textures. This activity supported their creativity, fine motor skills, and imagination as they brought their dinosaurs to life.
Reception students enjoyed creating their own funny little monsters. They drew their designs independently and used bright, bold colours to bring them to life. Each child created four different monsters, showing great creativity and imagination throughout the activity.
In PE, preschool and Reception students took part in a variety of obstacle courses. These activities incorporated skills they have been developing, including basic gymnastics movements, ball skills from previous topics, and fundamental movement skills such as balancing, jumping, and coordination. The groups then swapped activities, allowing all students to experience both games. The children showed good teamwork and enthusiasm as they developed their understanding of game rules and basic striking and fielding skills.

In Year 2 Creative Arts, the students explored the work of Andy Warhol. They observed how he repeated the same portrait while changing the background colours to create striking pieces of art. Inspired by this technique, the class agreed to draw a black cat and experiment with different background colours to produce their own Warhol-inspired artwork. The students showed creativity and a growing understanding of colour and repetition in art. In Year 2 PE, the students spent the first half of the lesson playing mini tennis tournaments in doubles, developing their coordination, teamwork, and racket skills. In the second half, they practised team games such as capture the flag, which encouraged communication, strategy, and collaboration.
