Al Sedra Early Years

Dear Parents,

As we move through these early weeks of Ramadan, our school is filled with a calm and thoughtful atmosphere. This special month invites us to reflect, to show kindness, and to strengthen our sense of responsibility, both as individuals and as a caring community.

For our youngest learners, maintaining a sense of routine helps them feel secure and ready to learn. One of the most helpful routines we can uphold together is ensuring that children arrive at school on time each morning. Those first moments of the day, greeting friends, sharing morning activities, and settling into class, make a big difference to their confidence and sense of belonging.

We understand that during Ramadan, family schedules can feel a little different, and mornings may sometimes be slower than usual. Still, by working together and planning ahead, we can support our children in developing positive habits and respect for time, important life skills that grow from small daily actions.

Thank you for your continued support and care. By showing our children how responsibility and community go hand in hand, we help them carry the true spirit of Ramadan into everything they do.

Wishing you and your families peace and blessings as we continue this special month together.

Yours faithfully,

Pamela Abbas

This week in Preschool, our theme was Art, with a special focus on Jackson Pollock. The students explored his unique splatter painting style and learned that art can be created through movement and creativity.

They experimented with exciting techniques to create their own Pollock-inspired masterpieces. Using bubble wrap, the students practised colour mixing and discovered how primary colours blend to make new shades. They loved pressing and dabbing the bubble wrap to see different textures and patterns appear. We also used small mops to splatter and swirl paint across large sheets of paper, encouraging big arm movements and self-expression, just like Pollock.

Alongside our art activities, we continued developing early literacy and numeracy skills. The students practised name writing, focusing on letter formation and recognition. In Maths, we worked on matching objects to numbers, strengthening one-to-one correspondence and counting skills.

It has been a colourful, creative, and hands-on week of learning!

This week in Reception, we have continued our exciting topic, Heroes. The students have been learning about firefighters and police officers, who they are, how they help us, what they do in their jobs, and where we can find them in our community. Through creative crafts and role play activities, the students have been exploring these important roles and using their imaginations to act out real life scenarios.

In Maths, we have been focusing on comparing numbers to 10. The students have been learning to identify which numbers are larger or smaller, and exploring different ways to represent and compare quantities through practical activities and games.

It has been a busy and engaging week of learning!

This week in Year 1, the students have been working hard to learn actions for our new text map, based on the book Wild. They have really enjoyed creating the actions together as a class, and many have been practising them at home.

In IPC, we have been planting seeds to grow our own plants after learning about what is needed for them to grow healthily, such as water, sunlight, and good soil. In our art area, we have been celebrating Ramadan by creating our own crescent moons, exploring patterns, colours, and textures.

The students have shown great creativity, curiosity, and teamwork throughout all of these activities, making it a very enjoyable and productive week of learning. It has been a purposeful and engaging week of learning across the curriculum.

This week in English, Year 2 have been learning the actions and key vocabulary for our new text map, The Bear and the Piano. We carefully sequenced the story and identified its main events. The students have also created their own writing toolkit, highlighting the key literary features they will include in their writing, such as descriptive language, dialogue, and repetition.

In Maths, we have been learning to tell the difference between length and height. We have also been applying the four operations, addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division, to solve word problems linked to measurement.

In IPC, we explored the sense of sight through a range of hands-on activities. The students investigated different light sources, as well as reflective and non-reflective materials. We even turned off the classroom lights and used torches to observe how light travels and reflects. The students were curious, engaged, and excited to explore science in a practical way, making it a very interactive and enjoyable week of learning.
