Al Sedra Bin Omran

Round up of this week

Head/Deputy Head Message

As we enter this blessed and holy month, I would like to extend my warmest wishes to all our families, Ramadan Kareem! May this month bring peace, reflection, good health, and countless blessings to you and your loved ones.

Last week was filled with proud moments for our school. We were incredibly proud of our students who took part in the Destination Imagination (DI) competition. They dedicated a tremendous amount of time, creativity, and effort into developing their projects, and they represented the school with confidence and professionalism during their presentations. Their teamwork, innovation, and commitment were truly commendable. I am certain it was an exciting and memorable experience for them, and we could not be prouder of the way they conducted themselves.

As you are aware, Ramadan has now begun and we have moved to shorter school hours. During this month, it is especially important that our students maintain a balanced routine at home. Ensuring they have structured sleep, appropriate rest, and time for both study and family will help them avoid becoming overtired. Good routines during Ramadan are essential for their wellbeing, focus, and overall success both spiritually and academically.

May this month be filled with reflection, kindness, gratitude, and togetherness.

I wish you all a peaceful and blessed Ramadan, full of mercy, forgiveness, and abundant blessings.

Year 2

This week in Year 2 🌟

We had a wonderful first week back after the holiday, and the children returned full of energy and ready to learn!

In Literacy, we began our new poetry unit 📖. The children explored a poem together, listened and performed it, and joined in with repeated phrases to help them learn the structure and style. They also discussed key vocabulary and what the poem meant.

In Maths, we started our Multiplication and Division topic. The children made equal groups and added them together to find totals. We also introduced the multiplication symbol and explored how it shows repeated addition using practical resources.

In PSHE, we talked about how to stay safe 🚦. The children discussed how rules help keep us safe on the road, near water and fire, when cycling, around medicines and household products, and online.

A fantastic start to the new term for Year 2! We’re excited for the learning ahead! ✨

Year 3

This week, Year 3 have had a fantastic return and settled in wonderfully. They have been learning a new poem as part of our poetry topic, exploring the mystery of what has been placed in the box. Their curiosity has been ignited as they imagine what they might find in their own boxes.

In IPC, Year 3 have been curious to learn about the Amazon Rainforest and discuss how we can protect the environment.

Year 4

This week in Science, Year 4 students took part in an exciting electricity scavenger hunt around the school. They searched for a variety of devices that use electricity, identifying which ones are powered wirelessly by batteries and which ones need to be plugged in. Pupils observed everyday equipment in different areas of the school and discussed how each device works. This hands-on activity helped them make real-life connections to their learning about electricity while developing their observation and teamwork skills. It was an engaging and practical experience that brought the topic to life.

In guided reading year 4 are concentrating on improving their vocabulary skills by using thesauruses. This week we were looking at describing nature and finding powerful verbs / adjectives to use for our poems.

Year 5

In writing, we have begun a new unit focused on poetry. The children have been exploring the well-known poem My Shadow, looking closely at the words and phrases chosen by the poet and the images these create for the reader. We also discussed how shadows are formed, as well as what they can and cannot do in real life. Through this work, the children learned that the author uses personification, giving the shadow human qualities to make the poem more engaging and imaginative.

Year 6

This week, the children have continued to build their confidence in algebra. They have worked with formulae, learned how to form equations, and solved both one- and two-step equations with increasing independence. In English, we completed our Hot Write, where the children wrote their own wishing tale narratives, showcasing the skills they have developed throughout the unit. We have now begun our new unit for Ramadan, focusing on the poem If by Rudyard Kipling. The children read and explored the poem, developing their understanding of its meaning and learning new and challenging vocabulary. In Science, we concluded our shadow experiment and discovered that the closer a light source is to an object, the larger the shadow appears, while moving it further away makes the shadow smaller. We also began learning about refraction. In PHSE, we had thoughtful discussions about how celebrities and influencers can have both positive and negative influences, and how we can recognise the impact they may have on us.
