As we come to the end of the term, I would like to wish you all a lovely and restful holiday. I hope the children enjoy their well-deserved break, and I look forward to seeing everyone again in January as we begin an exciting and successful Term 2 together.

Year 4

Year 4's Innovative Week of Learning 🤖🇶🇦

Year 4 started the week by plunging into the cutting edge of technology, participating in the worldwide computing event, 'Hour of AI'. This proved to be a fantastic opportunity for the children to explore the basics of Artificial Intelligence.

  • They learned the crucial concept that AI must be trained using data, but also that human oversight is still essential to verify the results.
  • The pupils put this into practice by training a virtual robot to successfully distinguish between different types of fish and rubbish.
  • In a creative follow-up, they designed their own dance character and composed the accompanying music for it to perform to, showcasing their ability to control and direct AI-powered tools.

Following their technological deep dive, the children shifted their focus to celebrating our host country's heritage in preparation for Qatar National Day:

  • The class designed an intricate Minecraft world inspired by scenes from Qatar, before crafting original stories set within their digital landscapes.
  • They also took on a design challenge, creating a concept for a new souvenir that could be sold in the local souq, and, importantly, providing a clear justification for the materials they chose to use.

Year 5

Happy National Day from the children of year 5! The children have completed lots of Qatar based activities this week and we have celebrated Qatar by playing themed games, enjoying cultural dances and music and tasting local delicacies!

Year 6

This week, we enjoyed celebrating Qatar National Day, which was a wonderful opportunity to celebrate all things Qatari. The day was full of fun, food, and exciting activities, and the children thoroughly enjoyed taking part in the celebrations. In Science, we continued our learning by classifying plants and exploring microorganisms, helping the children to deepen their understanding of living things. In maths, we focused on multiplying regular fractions by integers, developing confidence with this important skill.

We would also like to congratulate all the children in Red Oryx, who won the house cup this term and were rewarded with an hour of golden time and a well-deserved doughnut. Additionally, School Council is hosting a writing competition that children are welcome to enter during the winter break. Further details can be found on your child’s ClassDojo story. We look forward to seeing everyone next term and hope you all have a restful and enjoyable break.
