Round up of this week

Head/Deputy Head Message

As we come to the end of our penultimate week of school and conclude our Autumn term assessments, I would like to express how proud I am of the resilience and responsibility our students have shown throughout this period. Assessments can feel daunting, and the pressures that come with them can weigh on our minds, but what matters most is that each child has tried their very best — and I truly believe they have.

With assessments now behind us, we look forward to shifting our focus to our Qatar National Day celebrations. This is a special time for us to come together as a school community to honour the country we live in, its rich heritage, and the inspiring leadership of His Highness the Amir. Let us end the term on a high note, celebrating our shared pride and unity.

Ms Kim

PreSchool

✨ This week we explored the nursery rhyme Hickory Dickory Dock! 🕰️ The children loved talking about how the little mouse 🐭 might have felt as it ran up and down the clock—excited, curious, or maybe a bit nervous! We also focused on the important idea of time, noticing the numbers on the clock and how it helps us understand our day. ⏰
In Maths, we introduced subitising up to 5, helping children quickly recognise small groups of objects without counting. 🔢
Through play, imagination, and warm interactions, the children learned, laughed, and felt truly loved. ❤️

Reception

This week, the children have been learning all about travelling by air. They shared their own experiences of flying on a plane and talked excitedly about the amazing adventures they have been on. We also explored the advantages and disadvantages of travelling by air, encouraging the children to think and share their ideas. The children also enjoyed being creative this week as they designed and made their very own hot air balloons, using a range of materials and their wonderful imaginations. In Maths, the children continued to build their understanding of number bonds to 5 through a range of engaging activities.

In Literacy, the children learned about postcards and even had a go at writing their own, thinking carefully about who they would send it to and what they would like to say.

Another amazing week in Reception

Well done!

Year 1

🌟 This Week in Year 1! 🌟

In Maths, the children have been exploring numbers up to 19, using number lines, counters, and fun games to help them build confidence with counting, ordering, and recognising numbers. They worked brilliantly in pairs and showed great teamwork! 🔢🤝✨

In Literacy, the children were busy completing their hot write. They planned their ideas, practised their sentences, and then produced some amazing final pieces of writing. We were so impressed with how hard they worked and how creative their stories were! ✍️📖

It has also been a busy week of tests, but the children showed incredible resilience, positivity, and determination. They stayed focused, did their very best, and supported one another throughout the week. 💪😊💛

We are extremely proud of how far they have come and how beautifully they have handled everything. Well done Year 1! 🎉🌟📚

Year 2

Literacy ✏️
The children wrote their own diary entries from the perspective of a soldier under the care of Florence Nightingale.

They used their senses to describe what they could see, hear, smell and touch, helping them create detailed and expressive diary writing.

Maths 🔺
We explored the properties of 3D shapes in more depth. The children identified shapes around our learning environment and described them using key vocabulary such as faces, edges and vertices.

Science 🌊
In Science, we learned about ocean habitats. The children explored the world’s vast bodies of saltwater, discovering the types of plants that grow in the ocean and the animals that can be found living beneath the waves.

Assessment Week ⭐
Year 2 have also been busy completing their assessment tasks this week. We are incredibly proud of their resilience, focus and positive attitudes. They approached each challenge with confidence and gave their very best - well done, Year 2!

Year 3

Year 3 have had a wonderfully creative and productive week!

In English, the children wrote fantastic instruction texts on How to Get a Woolly Mammoth Ready for School. They confidently used all the features they have been learning about, including clear steps, imperative verbs, time conjunctions, and precise vocabulary. Their ideas were imaginative, humorous, and brilliantly original—we were so impressed!

To conclude our Science and IPC topics, the children had great fun making edible soil. Using chocolate cake, crushed Oreos, and chocolate chips, they created models representing the bedrock, subsoil, and topsoil. This hands-on activity helped them truly visualise and understand the different layers beneath our feet.

For our creative project, Year 3 also made fantastic woolly mammoths using recycled milk bottles. Their designs were inventive, resourceful, and showed wonderful teamwork.

It has been an amazing term filled with learning, creativity, and progress. We are so proud of everything the children have achieved!

Year 4

📰 Year 4 News: A Week of Hard Work and Preparation!

This week in Year 4, the children have been incredibly busy completing their end-of-term assessments. Their focus and dedication have been superb!

📝 Literacy Focus

In Writing, the children successfully completed a challenging and engaging project. They began by independently researching a person of their own choosing. Following a thorough planning stage, they showcased their writing skills in a 'hot write', producing a brilliant biography about their chosen figure.

➕ Maths Mastery

Our Maths lessons saw the children consolidate their understanding of core concepts. They revised their knowledge of both standard and flexible partitioning, applying this understanding to complete several challenging puzzles. Furthermore, they proved just how good they have become with their times tables during various fast-paced games and activities.

🌍 IPC Exit Point

The excitement is building as the children have also been hard at work preparing for their IPC Exit Point! They are looking forward to sharing and demonstrating everything they have learned this half term, and we cannot wait for you to see their fantastic achievements.

Year 5

This week, we completed our letter about our archaeological site. We used a range of grammar features, such as:

  • Expanded noun phrases to describe our site and artefacts.
  • Fronted adverbials to tell us the time we did something.
  • Question marks

After we write our letter, we edited it using the marking checklist and then finally published our work in our neatest handwriting.

Year 6

This week, we successfully completed the last of our assessments, and the children have shown fantastic effort and resilience throughout the entire two-week period. They should all feel extremely proud of themselves. In Science, we explored the different classifications of invertebrates and practised organising them into classification keys. We also learned about the layers of the Earth and how temperatures change the deeper you go. In IPC, the children completed some exciting mapwork and even created maps of their own. We continued our work on living things by classifying plants according to their features, and we also learned about how tectonic plates move to create natural events such as earthquakes and mountains.

It has been a very successful term filled with hard work, curiosity, and lots of new learning. The children have grown in confidence, shown great dedication, and should feel incredibly proud of all they have achieved. I hope everyone has a wonderful and well-deserved break!

Creative Arts/P.E.

Preschool and Reception
This week in our Creative Arts lessons, Preschool and Reception students had a wonderful time exploring jungle animals through music and art. We changed the song “Down in the Jungle” to include the children’s own animal ideas, and they created colourful artwork inspired by the creatures they might find there. The students also enjoyed singing familiar nursery rhymes from previous weeks—such as Twinkle, Twinkle, Five Little Monkeys, and Five Little Speckled Frogs—adding even more actions and expression to their performances. It was a joyful week full of creativity, movement, and imagination!

In Preschool and Reception PE this week, the children took part in a series of mini Olympic–style games that encouraged teamwork, coordination, and lots of fun. They enjoyed activities such as the egg-and-spoon race, balance bars, three-legged races, walking on stilts, relays, and small hurdles. The students showed great enthusiasm and growing confidence as they tried each event, cheering on their friends and celebrating their achievements throughout the lesson.

Year 1 and Year 2
In Creative Arts this week, Year 1 and Year 2 explored colour blending using oil pastels to create beautiful sunset-themed artworks. Year 1 focused on warm orange tones to produce striking sunset scenes, while Year 2 experimented with pink and purple shades to design sunsets reflecting over the sea. The students worked carefully to blend their colours and add detail, resulting in vibrant and expressive pieces they were very proud of.

In Year 1 and Year 2 PE this week, the students took part in a variety of mini team games designed to build cooperation, communication, and teamwork skills. They worked together to complete each activity, encouraging their teammates and finding strategies as a group. It was wonderful to see their confidence grow as they learned to support one another and celebrate shared success.
