Al Sedra Early Years

Dear Parents,

As we reach the end of the term, we would like to take this opportunity to acknowledge the effort and commitment our students have shown in upholding our core values of being Respectful, Responsible, and Resilient. Recognising and rewarding these behaviours is an important part of helping students understand the value of their choices, and we are proud of how consistently they have demonstrated these qualities throughout the term.

Across the Infant School, students have worked together to earn Dojo points, collaborating as a class to achieve a shared goal. Their teamwork, positive attitude, and persistence have contributed to a supportive learning environment where everyone can succeed.

We are pleased to share that each class has selected a special way to celebrate their achievements during our upcoming Dojo Reward Day. This day will be a wonderful opportunity for students to enjoy the results of their hard work.

Thank you for your continued support.

Yours faithfully,

Pamela Abbas

We have had a wonderful and busy week in Preschool, filled with hands-on learning and exciting opportunities to explore the world around us.

In Maths, the students have been developing their subitising skills, focusing on quickly recognising amounts up to three without needing to count. Through games, picture cards and practical activities using natural objects, they are becoming more confident in identifying small quantities and explaining what they see.

The bikes were a big highlight this week. The students practised important physical and social skills as they rode and steered around the outdoor area. They also learnt to take turns, share space safely and communicate with their friends, all of which are important for building confidence and positive relationships.

In Phonics, we introduced the sound ‘n’. The students explored the sound through songs, actions and spotting objects beginning with ‘n’. We also continued to revisit the sounds learnt so far to strengthen their early reading foundations.

The students enjoyed investigating floating and sinking. They made predictions, tested different objects in water and discussed why some things float while others sink. This hands-on exploration encouraged curiosity, problem-solving and early scientific thinking.

It has been a joyful week of learning and we are very proud of the students’ enthusiasm and progress.

We wrapped up our learning journey around the world by exploring our final country, the UK. The students learned about traditional foods and enjoyed discussing similarities and differences with foods from other countries.

To bring our learning to life, we linked the topic to the much-loved story The Tiger Who Came to Tea. The learners took part in engaging craft activities inspired by the book, creating wonderful artwork to celebrate the theme.

We also proudly added the final stamp to our class passports, marking the end of our international adventure.

In Maths, we continued developing subitising skills, recognising small quantities of objects without counting. The students practised

This week in Year 1 has been full of creativity and hands-on learning. As part of our ‘A Day in the Life of…’ topic, the students explored different jobs through a range of activities.

In writing, they imagined being a teacher for a day and shared some brilliant and funny ideas about what they would do. In construction, the students worked together to build their own vets’ surgeries, thinking carefully about the animals and equipment they would need.

In Maths, they explored length and height, measuring lines with classroom objects and then measuring items accurately using a ruler.

It has been a lovely week of teamwork, imagination and problem-solving in Year 1.

It has been a very hands-on week for the students as they have been creating their own toys using junk modelling. They planned their designs carefully, selected suitable materials and worked creatively to bring their ideas to life.

They have also been learning about dirhams and riyals, and how to use money through a range of practical activities. The students enjoyed role-play shopping, counting amounts and matching coins to prices, helping them understand how money is used in real-life situations.

In addition, the students have been busy with their assessments, having finished writing their text map for this term and completed their numeracy reasoning and problem-solving papers. They showed great focus and resilience throughout, and we are very proud of their efforts.
