Geography fieldwork – Souq Waqif & Msheireb Downtown
On Thursday 20th November, the ks4 Geography cohort of students participated in a fieldwork trip to Souq Waqif and Msheireb Downtown as part of their IGCSE coursework requirements. This practical investigation forms 27.5% of their final grade and is an essential component of developing their understanding of geographical enquiry and data collection techniques.
During the visit, students gathered a range of primary data, including pedestrian counts, environmental quality surveys, land-use observations, and photographic evidence. These contrasting locations offered valuable opportunities to explore patterns of tourism, urban development, and environmental quality within Doha.
The students approached the day with a highly positive attitude and demonstrated outstanding behaviour throughout. They engaged purposefully with each task, worked collaboratively in their groups, and supported one another to ensure data was collected accurately and efficiently. Their respectful conduct in public spaces and mature approach to learning reflected the values of our school community.
Overall, the fieldwork experience was both productive and enriching. It allowed students to apply classroom knowledge to real-world settings while developing essential skills in teamwork, communication, and critical observation. The high standard of participation contributed to a successful and enjoyable day for all involved.
Kind regards,
Abnor
