Al Sedra Early Years

Dear Parents,

As we finish another busy and exciting week at school, I want to celebrate the effort and enthusiasm of all our students. It has been fantastic to see them so engaged, curious and eager to learn. From creative projects to developing skills in reading, writing and maths, they have approached every task with energy and pride. Their resilience and willingness to try new things is truly inspiring. I have also been delighted to see many students rewarded this week with a Head of School sticker for their hard work and positive attitude.

I would like to thank our wonderful staff for their dedication in providing meaningful and enjoyable learning experiences. Their hard work ensures that every student feels supported and encouraged to do their best, and their creativity brings learning to life in every classroom.

Finally, I am very grateful to all our families for your continued support. Your involvement is so important in helping your children succeed. We are looking forward to another week full of learning, discovery and achievements, and to seeing the children continue to grow and thrive.

Yours faithfully,

Pamela Abbas

We have had a wonderful and busy week in Preschool, full of hands-on learning, creativity and exploration. The students enjoyed activities that supported their communication skills, understanding of the world, early maths and fine motor development.

Using Tales Toolkit, the students created simple stories with prompts for character, setting, problem and solution. They enjoyed choosing props, acting out ideas and building confidence in language and cooperative play.

In Understanding the World, we learnt about the life cycle of a frog. The students looked at pictures and short videos, sequenced the stages and shared what they knew about animals and nature.

For expressive arts and design, the students used a range of shapes to create their own pictures, reinforcing shape recognition and practising cutting and composition skills.

In the construction area, the students explored balance and structure while building with blocks, developing early maths skills, problem solving and spatial awareness.

It has been a joyful week, and we are very proud of how confidently the students are engaging and sharing their ideas.

This week, Reception enjoyed learning about China and Japan.

We explored the different foods people eat, such as noodles, rice, dumplings, sushi and miso soup. The students loved having a go with chopsticks and discussing how people use them at mealtimes.

For crafts, we made colourful Chinese lanterns, simple dragon decorations, paper sushi and painted cherry blossom trees.

The students also learned that China is a very large country, while Japan is made up of many islands.

Everyone enjoyed comparing the two countries and taking part in the hands-on activities.

This week in Year 1 has been full of creativity and enthusiastic learning.

In Art, the students carefully made their own meteor showers, shaping foil into meteors and adding bright red, orange and yellow tissue-paper flames to show the fiery trails streaking across the sky.

In Maths, the students applied their recent learning on shapes and patterns, confidently creating a range of repeating shape patterns and explaining the rules they had chosen.

In the construction area, the students enjoyed designing and building their own post offices with building blocks, adding counters, windows and signs as they discussed how real post offices work.

It has been a wonderful week of imaginative exploration, problem-solving and hands-on fun.

Year 2 has had a busy and exciting week. They have been exploring 3D shapes in detail, counting their sides, faces and vertices, and discussing where these shapes appear in everyday life.

The students have also been developing their text maps in preparation for their upcoming writing assessment, taking time to rehearse key vocabulary and practise organising their ideas clearly and confidently.

In IPC, the students have been designing and making their own toys using a variety of materials. They have enjoyed planning their creations, experimenting with different resources and showing their imaginative and creative skills.

It has been a productive and engaging week for all.
