Round up of this week

Head/Deputy Head Message

As we settle into our second week back, it’s been wonderful to see routines firmly in place and students fully engaged in their learning. Classrooms are buzzing with energy and purpose, and it’s clear that everyone is focused and ready for the term ahead.

We’re also in the process of organising a number of exciting school trips designed to enrich and extend our students’ learning beyond the classroom. These opportunities help bring subjects to life and deepen understanding in meaningful ways.

Thank you, as always, for your continued support in helping us shape respectful, resilient, and responsible young citizens. We look forward to a successful and inspiring term together.

PreSchool

This week in class, we have been learning all about our families. The children have enjoyed talking and sharing their favourite family moments, helping us all get to know each other better. We’ve been busy with lots of fun activities, exploring new ideas and learning through play.

In Maths, we have been focusing on the number 1, using songs, objects, and games to build our understanding.

The children are settling into school life well and growing in confidence each day. They are also beginning to take more responsibility in their routines and learning, showing great progress in becoming independent learners — fantastic work!

Reception

We’ve had a fantastic second week in Reception. The children have been busy strengthening their fine motor skills, taking part in fun number activities, and showing great creativity through playing in the sand. It has been wonderful to see them settling so well and approaching each new experience with such enthusiasm. I am so proud of all their efforts and the positive start they are making to their Reception journey.

Year 1

This week in Year One, we have been focusing on number recognition and correct number formation, helping children build a strong foundation in numeracy. In Maths, we explored counting and identifying patterns through engaging activities. During our PSHE sessions, we discussed how we are all the same in some ways but also unique, encouraging children to celebrate differences and develop empathy. It’s been a fun and meaningful week of learning across subjects, supporting both academic and personal development.

Year 2

Year 2 have had a fantastic and learning-filled Week 2!

In Maths, we’ve been exploring Place Value, digging deeper into the value of each digit using Base 10 resources and place value charts. We took part in lots of practical tasks to help us understand how numbers are made and how their value changes depending on their position.

In Literacy, we’ve started our new text, The Incredible Book Eating Boy, and have really enjoyed using drama and role play to act out key parts of the story. We will be creating story maps and learning our model text to help deepen our comprehension of the story, as well as building our understanding of story structure, sequencing, and key vocabulary.

In Science, we’ve begun learning all about Humans, with a focus on exercise. We investigated how different types of exercise affect our heart rate and found out which activities made our hearts beat the fastest. It’s been a fun, active, and engaging week of learning!

Year 3

This week in Year 3, the children have been stepping back in time to the Stone Age as part of their Scavengers and Settlers topic. They had the opportunity to design and make their own tools, just like early humans would have done, and explored the importance of hunting for survival in prehistoric times. The children were fascinated to think about how people long ago used creativity and natural resources to meet their daily needs.

In Maths, Year 3 have been continuing their work on place value, developing a stronger understanding of numbers up to 1,000. Using counters, place value charts, and Dienes, they practised representing, comparing, and ordering numbers, which has helped them build confidence with larger values.

In Literacy, the focus has been on diary writing. The children have been learning about the past tense and spotting its features in a model text. They have also begun learning their story map by heart through actions and rehearsals, which has brought the text to life and supported their ability to retell it with expression and confidence.

Year 4

This week in Year 4, the children took part in an exciting vote to choose their school council representative, showing great responsibility and teamwork. In Maths, they have been developing their understanding of place value through flexible partitioning, helping them to see numbers in different ways. In Literacy, the children began learning their new model text, The Chocolate Chomper—a thrilling defeating-the-monster story which they are already enjoying!

Year 5

For the past two weeks we have been getting to know our class story The Watertower by Gary Crew. The children have read, annotated and acted out the story to ensure there understanding. We are now ready to being our imitate write and try to write our own suspense story!

Year 6

This week in Year 6, the children submitted their letters for Head Boy and Head Girl and also took part in a vote to decide who would be their school council representative. In maths, we have been completing our work on place value which has included negative numbers and rounding any number. While in Literacy we have been working on learning our story map and writing the introduction to our flashback narrative. In IPC, we have been considering our strengths and weaknesses and in Science we have been looking at the characteristics that we can inherit from our parents.
