Al Sedra Early Years

Dear Parents,

This is the final newsletter of the academic year.

As we come to the end of another successful school year, we would like to extend our heartfelt thanks to our entire school community. This year has been filled with growth, achievement, and memorable experiences that would not have been possible without the dedication and support of our students, parents, and staff.

To our students, thank you for your enthusiasm, resilience, and willingness to embrace new challenges. You have made us proud through your hard work and accomplishments.

To our parents, we are deeply grateful for your partnership, encouragement, and trust. Your ongoing support has played a vital role in your children's success and in strengthening our school community.

Finally, thank you to our exceptional staff for your unwavering commitment, professionalism, and care. Your passion for education inspires our students every day.

Students will take part in their final Dojo Reward Day on Sunday, 28th June, celebrating their positive choices, achievements, and efforts throughout the year. The last day of the school year will be Tuesday, 30th June, when we will officially begin the summer break.

We wish everyone a safe, restful, and enjoyable holiday, and we look forward to welcoming everyone back for another wonderful year ahead. Don’t forget to check our Instagram page for photographs from the end-of-year and step-up celebrations.

Yours faithfully,

Pamela Abbas

This week in Preschool, the students have been working on phonics. We revisited previously taught sounds and focused on blending sounds to read words and segmenting words for spelling. The students practised these skills through a variety of engaging games, puzzles and interactive activities.

In maths, we explored sorting and counting objects, encouraging students to identify similarities and differences while developing their number recognition and counting skills.

Our sensory play focused on water activities, where the students enjoyed pouring, filling and exploring capacity using a range of containers. These experiences supported language development and early mathematical concepts.

To strengthen fine motor skills, the students used tweezers to pick up and sort small objects. This helped to develop hand strength, coordination and control, which are important foundations for writing.

This week in Reception, we have been enjoying the traditional tale The Enormous Turnip. The students loved listening to the story and joining in with the repeated phrases. We talked about the different characters and discussed what happened at the beginning, middle and end of the story.

We explored the meaning of new vocabulary such as enormous, pull and teamwork, and the students enjoyed discussing why all the characters needed to work together to pull the turnip from the ground.

We also discussed what plants need to grow and stay healthy, including sunlight, water and soil. The students enjoyed a range of creative activities linked to the story, including making turnip-themed artwork and taking part in role-play activities.

We have had a busy and productive week in Year 1! The students have been designing and creating their own Pop Art-inspired posters to advertise our end-of-year performance. In their writing challenge, they have been thinking about what they are most excited for in Year 2.

In the construction area, the students have worked collaboratively to build a shop and create items to sell. In the Maths area, they have been using Qatari Riyals to pay for items in our class shop, developing their understanding of money through practical experiences.

This week in Year 2, we have been busy developing our mathematical skills through our topic on data collection and statistics. The students have enjoyed gathering information, creating charts and graphs, and interpreting data to answer questions. It has been wonderful to see their growing confidence in analysing information and explaining their findings.

Alongside our learning, we have also been working hard on preparing for our end-of-year performances. The students have shown great enthusiasm during rehearsals, practising their songs, lines and actions with increasing confidence. We are incredibly proud of their effort and teamwork as they get ready to showcase their talents next week.

As we approach the end of the academic year, it is fantastic to see the students continuing to demonstrate resilience, determination and a positive attitude towards their learning. We look forward to sharing their wonderful performances with you soon!
