It’s been a calm and productive week at here at GES, with lots of positive learning taking place across the school. Both teachers and pupils have remained focused and engaged as preparations continue for the upcoming assessments. As we begin the month of May, the end of the academic year is fast approaching, and classrooms continue to be filled with purposeful learning, revision, and reflection. It has been pleasing to see students showing resilience, maturity, and determination in their learning, whilst staff continue to provide high-quality support and encouragement throughout this important period. Alongside academic preparation, we continue to place a strong emphasis on student wellbeing, positive relationships, and maintaining a supportive learning environment for all. We thank our parents for their continued support and partnership as we work together to ensure the best possible outcomes for our children during the final term of the academic year. Mr. Sidat |

This week in RMO, we were very excited to begin our new topic, “Once Upon a Time,” where the children will be exploring a range of traditional tales. Our focus story this week has been The Gingerbread Man, and the children have thoroughly enjoyed listening to and retelling the story in different ways. Throughout the week, the children have taken part in a variety of creative and engaging activities linked to the story. They enjoyed decorating their own gingerbread men and designing ovens, which encouraged creativity and supported their storytelling skills. The children have also been encouraged to talk about the story, sequence events and use key vocabulary from the tale during their play and learning. In Literacy, the children have been writing from the Gingerbread Man’s point of view, describing what happened when he escaped from the oven. In Maths, we have continued to develop the children’s spatial reasoning skills through practical activities and challenges. We have also continued practising subitising, where the children recognise small groups of objects without needing to count them one by one. This helps to build confidence and a deeper understanding of number. It has been a wonderful start to our new topic and the children have shown fantastic engagement in their learning throughout the week.

Year 1 |
🌟 This week in Year 1 has been full of exciting learning and lots of fun! 🌟 📚 In Literacy, we have been exploring Lucy and Tom at the Seaside and learning how to write amazing character descriptions for Lucy. The children used fantastic adjectives to describe what Lucy looks like and how she behaves! ✏️🌊 🗓️ In Maths, we have been learning all about the days of the week and the months of the year. The children have enjoyed singing songs, ordering the months, and practising remembering special dates! 🎶📅 🧳 In IPC, we have been looking at baggage and how it has changed over time. The children loved comparing old suitcases to modern luggage and discussing what people might have packed in the past! ✈️👜 🦁 In Science, we have been recapping carnivores, herbivores, and omnivores. The children had lots of fun sorting animals and discussing what different animals like to eat! 🐯🐄🐻

This week in Year 2 🌟 In Maths, we started our exciting new unit on Time ⏰. The children created their own paper plate clocks and used them to explore o’clock, half past, quarter past and quarter to. They enjoyed using the clocks to practise telling and showing different times. In Literacy, our focus was on SPaG ✏️ as the children explored homophones and practised using them correctly in their writing. We discussed how some words sound the same but have different meanings and spellings. In Reading, the children used their VIPERS skills 🐬 to answer questions about a non-fiction text all about dolphins. They worked hard to retrieve information, explain vocabulary and discuss what they had learnt from the text. In PSHE, we explored how people learn and play in different ways 💻🎲. The children also discussed the importance of taking breaks from screen time and how this helps us stay healthy and balanced. Another fun and engaging week of learning in Year 2! ✨

Year 3 |
This week, we have been doing lots of Guided Reading, focusing on both fiction and non-fiction texts. For our fiction text, the children explored a short extract from the book The Worst Witch. We focused on understanding key vocabulary, retrieving important information from the text and using clues and evidence to support our answers and ideas. In non-fiction, the children read a scientific text about magnets, linking closely to our Science topic. They practised explaining their answers using the sentence stems “This is because…” and “This means that…”, helping them to develop clear and detailed explanations. The children have thoroughly enjoyed learning about magnets in Science, especially investigating magnetic and non-magnetic materials around the classroom and school. They were excited to test different objects and observe how magnets attract and repel, making predictions and discussing their findings using scientific vocabulary.

Year 4 Weekly Update: Creative Writing and Scientific Discoveries It has been an incredibly productive and imaginative week in Year 4! The children have dived deep into their subjects, showing great curiosity and a flair for descriptive language. Literacy: Bringing Characters to Life Our focus in Literacy this week was on mastering the art of the simile. The children worked hard to describe the witch from our model text, moving beyond simple descriptions to create truly atmospheric imagery. One standout example that captured the imagination was: "Her voice sounded like cracking wood as flames eat it." Following this, the pupils transitioned into setting descriptions, using their expanded vocabulary to build vivid worlds for their readers. Maths: A New Angle on Learning In our Maths sessions, we have been exploring the world of geometry. The children have been identifying and classifying different types of angles. By the end of the week, everyone was confident in spotting the differences between:
Science: Investigating Sound Young scientists were in action this week as we planned an investigation into acoustics. The children were tasked with exploring how sound changes over a distance. A key part of their learning involved the concept of a 'fair test', ensuring that they kept all variables the same to achieve accurate and reliable results. IPC: Past, Present, and Future Our IPC lessons took us on a journey through time. We looked at how household appliances have evolved, comparing the manual tools of the past with the high-tech gadgets we use today. The children also enjoyed a bit of 'blue-sky thinking', predicting how technology might change our homes in the future. Well done to all of Year 4 for such a brilliant week of learning!

In Science, we investigated air resistance by making and testing paper airplanes. Air resistance is a force that slows objects down as they move through the air. We created different designs and flew them from the same height to see which travelled the best. We found that wider wings helped planes stay in the air longer, while slimmer designs moved faster with less air resistance. This showed that the best design needs a balance between lift and air resistance. |
Year 6 |
This week has been full of exciting learning across the curriculum. On Monday, we visited Main Campus and experienced what life in secondary school would be like. The children represented the class brilliantly and enjoyed having a taste of the routines and expectations of secondary learning. Some of the children have also been busy preparing to sing at the upcoming Year 12 Graduation later next week. They have spent a long time practising and preparing for this special event, and we are very proud of the effort and commitment they have shown. In English, we began completing our invention writes, and the children have come up with some incredibly creative and imaginative ideas. It has been wonderful to see them developing their descriptive writing and persuasive techniques while bringing their inventions to life. In Maths, we explored 3D nets and began learning about coordinates, including how to identify and plot coordinates within a four-quadrant grid. In IPC, we continued our work on climate change by exploring practical and realistic ways that people can help reduce its effects and protect the environment. In Science, we investigated what can happen when veins or arteries become blocked, discussing how this happens and the dangers it can pose to the circulatory system. Overall, it has been another busy and productive week with lots of thoughtful discussions and excellent learning taking place.

EYFS KS1 KS2 PE: Music: They rehearsed songs and actions enthusiastically, showing improved timing and expression. Children worked hard to remember lyrics and perform clearly as part of a group. Lessons were full of energy as they practised performing together. Confidence is continuing to grow each session, with children becoming more comfortable performing in front of others. It has been lovely to see their enthusiasm shine through. Year 4 PE: Music: Year 5 PE: Music: Year 6 PE: Music: |
