Al Sedra Early Years

Dear Parents,

It has been a wonderful first week back to face-to-face learning, and the positive energy across the school has been truly uplifting. It has been fantastic to see our community reunited, with so many smiling faces from students, staff and families. Even the rainy weather could not dampen the enthusiasm and excitement of being back together in classrooms.

Students have settled in quickly, reconnecting with friends and re-engaging with their learning. To ensure this strong start continues, we would like to remind families of the importance of arriving at school in good time each day. Punctuality helps students feel calm, prepared, and ready to begin their learning, allowing them to fully engage in classroom routines from the very start of the day.

Thank you for your continued support in making this such a successful and happy return to school.

Yours faithfully,

Pamela Abbas

This week, our Preschool students are exploring land transport. They are learning about different types of land transport, including cars, buses and trains, while developing key learning skills.

In Mathematics, students focus on counting and sorting, grouping vehicles by size, colour and type, which builds early numeracy and problem-solving skills in a hands-on way.

Students are also acting as young engineers, designing and building ramps and bridges with blocks and recycled materials. This encourages creativity, teamwork and understanding of basic construction concepts.

In role play, students enjoy “Cafe 999”, taking on different roles, practising communication and exploring real-life situations, which strengthens confidence and social skills.

Creativity continues to flourish as students use shapes and pipe cleaners to make vehicles and imaginative designs, developing fine motor skills and artistic expression.

This week in Reception, our students had a fantastic time exploring the world of Supertato. They enjoyed listening to the story and following the adventures of their favourite superhero potato as he battled the Evil Pea.

Our focus this week was on creativity and imagination. Students took part in craft activities inspired by the story, designing and creating their own Supertato characters with capes, masks and plenty of personality.

In Maths, students have been learning about patterns. They enjoyed identifying, copying and creating their own repeating patterns using colours, shapes and everyday objects.

We are very proud of all their efforts this week. Well done, Reception, for your creativity, curiosity and enthusiasm!

This week in Year 1, our students have been working hard across all areas of learning. In Writing, they have been rehearsing their new text map, “Wild,” using actions to help remember the story.

In Maths, the focus has been on making equal groups. Students used practical resources to explore the difference between equal and unequal groups and began explaining their thinking.

In IPC, we have been learning about carnivores and their diets. The children enjoyed drawing and creating their own carnivores during Continuous Provision, bringing their learning to life through creativity.

We’ve had a fantastic first week back at school!

In English, Year 2 have been drawing and describing their own characters and settings in preparation for the innovation stage of The Bear and the Piano. We practised using alliteration and revisited the importance of strong adjectives in our writing.

In Maths, we have been exploring fractions, learning about parts and wholes and identifying halves, thirds and quarters in numbers and pictures.

In IPC, we continued our work on the senses by exploring artwork by Bridget Riley and Victor Vasarely. This inspired us to create our own optical illusions, experimenting with shape, pattern and colour. It has been an exciting week full of creativity, curiosity and learning!
