Round up of this week

Head/Deputy Head Message

This week, we have noticed an increased number of students arriving late to school, missing a significant part of their first lesson. We kindly remind you to ensure your child is in school by 7:30am so they can fully benefit from the start of the day, which begins with their reading lesson.

You will also see many letters going home regarding exciting upcoming trips designed to enhance student learning across different topics—we are looking forward to these valuable experiences.

Finally, we would like to thank you for your patience with the online platforms. Microsoft is working closely with us to resolve the small teething issues we are currently experiencing with OneNote, and we will update you as soon as everything is running smoothly.

PreSchool

This week, our classroom was full of imagination, creativity, and joyful learning!

We explored The Three Little Camels 🐪—a fun twist on a familiar tale—to practise counting to 3. The children loved building their own imaginary houses and proudly explained what made each design special. Their ideas were thoughtful, creative, and full of personality!

We've also been focusing on mark-making activities to help strengthen fine motor skills and build early writing confidence. From drawing patterns to experimenting with different tools, the children are growing more confident in expressing themselves through marks and early writing.

It’s been wonderful to see their excitement and creativity shine through in everything they do. We’re so proud of their progress!

Reception

This week in Reception, the children have been talking all about their families, proudly sharing and listening to one another’s stories. Alongside this, they explored a variety of engaging activities that encouraged creativity, curiosity, and teamwork. In Maths, the children have been exploring different numbers, building their understanding through fun and practical activities. Well done and keep it up!

Year 1

This week in Year 1 has been full of fun and exciting learning! In Literacy, we started a brand new book called A Present for Mum. Before reading, we made some amazing predictions about what we thought the story would be about – there were some very creative ideas! In Maths, we’ve been busy counting lots of different objects and practising our number skills. In IPC, we proudly shared our brilliant Who Am I? projects with the class. We also had a great time in ICT, where we learned the names of different parts of a computer. What a fantastic week!

Year 2

Year 2 have been using Base 10 and cubes to visualise numbers and understand the value of each digit. We explored place value further by breaking numbers into tens and ones using expanded form.

In Literacy, we had fun with The Incredible Book Eating Boy! We wrote captions for pictures, practised using capital letters and full stops, and worked on neat letter formation. The children loved sharing their ideas about what might happen next.

Year 3

This week, Year 3 have been busy stepping into the shoes of archaeologists! We explored how fossils help us learn about the past and even created our own out of clay, representing plants, dinosaur bones, and ancient artefacts. The children loved getting hands-on and imagining what future archaeologists might discover from their work.

In English, the children built their writing stamina by rewriting our model text and focusing carefully on the key features of a diary. They showed great creativity and resilience, and it has been wonderful to see their confidence as writers grow.

In Maths, we finalised our Place Value topic, making sure the children have a solid foundation in their understanding of numbers to 1,000. This will set them up perfectly for moving on to addition and subtraction next week.

It has been a fantastic week of curiosity, creativity, and hard work in Year 3.

Year 4

This week in Year 4 the children have been busy deepening their learning across all subjects. In Maths, they have focused on number lines, working on estimating the position of numbers up to 10,000 with growing confidence. In Literacy, the children have enjoyed learning the model text The Chocolate Chomper, using actions to help them recall the story before creating their own story maps. In Science, curiosity was sparked as they explored solids, liquids and gases, discovering that some materials can be tricky to classify and don’t always fit neatly into one category.

Year 5

This week in PSHE, we explored the concept of identity. We discussed the different characteristics that make up a person’s identity, such as interests, values and personal qualities.

We then created their own identity shields, using drawings and words to represent the unique characteristics that make up their individual identity. This activity encouraged self-reflection and helped the children to celebrate what makes them special and different from others.

Year 6

This week in Year 6 we have really hit the flow with our learning. In maths, we have moved onto addition and subtraction. We have worked hard to understand column addition and column subtraction with six digit numbers and also learned about factors and common factors. While in Literacy, we have been exploring in depth the concept of personification and writing sentences whereby we personify feelings and items. The children have produced wonderful writing and should be very proud of the progress they have made. In PSHE, we have explored what makes a good friend while in ICT we have learned that websites have addresses called “IP addresses”. We also learned our leadership roles for this year, and a new Head Boy and Head Girl have been elected.
