Al Sedra Bin Omran

**Deputy Head’s Comments**

Our students have been working incredibly hard in preparation for their assessments, and we are proud of the effort and dedication they have shown. As we approach the final week of assessments, we kindly remind all families of the importance of a good night’s sleep to support memory and learning. Studies show that “sleep helps consolidate memories and improves recall — especially in primary- aged children, whose brains are still rapidly developing.” Ensuring your child gets enough rest can make a real difference in helping them retain what they’ve revised.

Next week marks our final assessment days, ending with a special celebration — our Year 6 Graduation Assembly on Wednesday, 4th June. Please note that school will finish at 1:45 PM on that day as we begin our Eid break.

We look forward to welcoming students back on Sunday, 15th June, and remind you that the summer term will officially end on Tuesday, 24th June at 12:45 PM.

Pre-School:

This week, our story was The Grouchy Ladybug, and we had a fantastic time exploring some fun and fascinating facts about ladybugs!

The children were especially excited to learn how ladybugs live, what they eat, and the important role they play in nature.

As part of our learning, the children practised observational drawing by following step-by-step instructions to create their own ladybug illustrations. They concentrated on shapes and details, carefully observing as they drew.

In Maths, we’ve been reinforcing our understanding of positional language through a variety of engaging activities.

Reception:

This week, we began our final topic ‘Traditional Tales.’ We have been focusing on the Gingerbread Man story, and the children have enjoyed making ‘Wanted’ posters.

In Maths, we have deepened our understanding of spacial reasoning and revised subitising.

Year 1:

This week in Literacy, the children have been working hard on their Hot Writes. They used their plans to write independently, focusing on using capital letters, full stops, finger spaces, and interesting vocabulary. It has been great to see how much progress they’ve made in their writing!

In Maths, we have been revising key topics in preparation for our upcoming assessments.  They’ve shown great resilience and focus. Well done to everyone for their brilliant effort this week!

Year 1 had a fantastic time exploring exciting experiments and learning new things. The children were fully engaged and showed great curiosity throughout the session. They asked thoughtful and interesting questions, showing how much they’ve learned this year in Science. It was a wonderful opportunity to bring science to life in a fun and interactive way.

Year 2:

In Year 2 we went on a plant hunt. We made observations in our local environment. We found a dead leaf, some seeds, a date palm tree, a white flower and a small tree.We used our knowledge of plants to identify the plants and parts of plants. We will look at the plants and classify them using different criteria. We will then identify which parts are living and how we can determine if something is living.  It was a very hot day but we enjoyed going on our plant hunt.

Year 3:

In IPC, we learnt about different traditional clothing from around the world. The children had great fun researching and designing their own outfits inspired by different countries. We explored kimonos from Japan, kilts from Scotland, and many more. The class particularly enjoyed a matching game, where they had to guess which, traditional outfit belonged to which country and they were fantastic at it!

In Maths, I was really impressed by the children’s hard work and focus as we completed our final topic on money. They confidently practised adding, subtracting, and finding change, showing great reasoning skills along the way.

The rest of the week was spent preparing and reviewing all our past topics, getting ready for our upcoming assessments.

Year 4:

This week in Literacy, Year 4 have continued to explore poetry, with a special focus on shape poems. The children have enjoyed using creative language and visual structure to bring their writing to life, and many were excited to perform their poems with confidence and expression.

In Maths, pupils have been learning how to interpret and draw line graphs. They worked hard to understand how data can be represented visually and used their skills to create their own accurate and informative graphs.

A highlight of the week was Monday’s Science Roadshow, where Year 4 joined the rest of Key Stage 2 for an exciting morning of demonstrations. The children were thoroughly engaged and inspired by the experiments and scientific displays – a brilliant way to spark curiosity and celebrate science learning!

Year 5:

In Math’s this week, year 5 have been looking at converting measurements from mm to cm to m. We took our learning outside looking at different parts of our school environment and finding the appropriate measurement for the area.

Year 6:

This week year 6 have completed their reading comprehension test – using their VIPER skills in order to answer questions based on a text about the Circulatory System. This was a great way to combine our science unit topic with our reading skills.

In Maths we have finished our shapes topic, identifying the angles within shapes, particularly quadrilaterals, polygons and circles.

In Literacy we are in the draft stage of our FINAL writing unit of year 6. This is a good opportunity to assess how far everyone's writing has come since the beginning of the year and demonstrate their progress.
