Round up of this week | ||
Head/Deputy Head Message
Thank you to all parents who engaged so positively in our parent meetings this week. It was wonderful to see so many families coming into school and working in partnership with teachers to support their children’s learning and future progress. Strong communication between home and school plays a vital role in helping our students thrive. As Helen Keller wisely said, “Alone we can do so little; together we can do so much.” As we move forward into a very busy and exciting period, we have many trips and whole-school events planned. We kindly ask that all trip payments are made by the deadlines stated in the letters sent home, as this allows us to confirm numbers and ensure appropriate transport arrangements are in place. Thank you, as always, for your continued support and cooperation. Ms Kim

This week has been full of exciting learning and happy moments ⭐📚. We have been learning about the story The Selfish Crocodile 🐊 and enjoyed discussing the characters, friendship, and the importance of sharing and kindness 💚. Playtime️ remains a favourite part of the day, where children play together, take turns, and share toys 🤝. We are proud to see their social skills, teamwork, and confidence continuing to grow 🌟👏.

This week in Reception, the children have been learning about travelling by land, exploring different types of transport such as cars, buses, trains and bikes through a range of engaging activities and discussions. In Maths, the children have been learning about height and length. They have been comparing objects using language such as tall, short and long. Also measuring classroom objects with cubes and blocks, then ordering items from shortest to longest through practical activities. The children have shown great enthusiasm and curiosity throughout the week. Well done and keep up the amazing work!

Year 1 | ||
This week in Year One has been full of exciting learning! In Literacy, we have been learning how to call an ambulance in an emergency. The children practised what to say, how to stay calm, and why it’s important to give clear information and instruction to help others quickly and safely. In Maths, we had fun doubling numbers up to 10. Using games, objects, and actions, the children explored how doubling makes numbers bigger and helped them build confidence with quick mental maths. 🔢🎲 In Science, we turned into curious investigators! The children explored different materials and their properties, feeling and comparing objects to decide if they were hard or smooth. There was lots of touching, describing, and excited discussion as they discovered how different things feel. 🧪🖐️ A brilliant week of learning all round! 🌟
Year 2 | ||
This week in Year 2 at Al Sedra 🏴☠️ This week, we launched our new IPC topic - Treasure Island, with an exciting hook lesson! The children created their own pirate eye patches, which sparked lots of enthusiasm and imagination for our new learning adventure. In Literacy, this linked perfectly with our work on instruction writing. Using the text How to Make a Pirate Hat, the children explored the features of instructions and then followed the steps carefully to make their own pirate hats 🏴☠️🎩, focusing on sequencing, clear commands and time words. In Maths, we have begun learning about money. The children became coin detectives, exploring pounds and pence, carefully looking at coins and notes, understanding their values and adding amounts together to find totals 💷. It has been another fun-filled and engaging week of learning, and the children are thoroughly enjoying diving into our Treasure Island topic!
Year 3 | ||
This week, the children enjoyed a range of engaging Science activities focused on learning about the functions of the skeleton. Through a range of experiments, they explored how different bones protect and support the body. The children investigated the role of the skull and ribcage in protecting vital organs, explored balance and movement, and learned how the spine and legs help us stand tall. In Literacy, the children have been working hard to internalise their model text. They have been focusing on understanding the structure, key vocabulary, and language features, including sentence types and descriptive phrases. This will support them as they begin to apply these features independently in their future writing tasks. In Maths, the children have started their new topic on length and perimeter. They have been learning how to measure accurately using standard units and comparing different lengths.
Year 4 | ||
It has been another jam-packed, super busy week! The children have been absolute stars, diving headfirst into their learning and showing heaps of enthusiasm. Here is a little peek at what we’ve been up to: In Writing, we are becoming experts on our model text, ‘Dorothy’s Journey’! The children have been using some fantastic actions and drawing detailed story maps to help them remember the tale. It’s been great fun seeing them bring the story to life! In Reading, we’ve been working in pairs to practice our comprehension skills. It’s been lovely to hear the classroom filled with expressive voices as the children help each other read with more fluency and flair. We’ve had a real "brain workout" in Maths this week! We’ve been mastering the art of dividing by 10 and 100, and now we’re moving on to the big stuff: formal written methods for multiplication. The children are showing great resilience as they learn these new steps! In Science, we turned into mini-scientists to explore the world of animals! We’ve been learning how to tell the difference between vertebrates (animals with backbones) and invertebrates (those without). We spent time investigating all sorts of creepy-crawlies and fascinating invertebrates—there was so much to discover!

Year 5 | ||
This week in Science, we have carried out an investigation looking at soluble and insoluble substances. We discovered salt, sugar and coffee are soluble substances, which means they dissolve in water. Additionally, flour, sand and rice are insoluble substances, which means they do not dissolve in water.

Year 6 | ||
This week, the children began their learning on ratio, focusing on using ratio language and making links between ratios and fractions. In English, we finished learning our story map, and the children should now be able to fully recall the text with support from the map. In IPC, the children explored significant events from their own lifetimes and placed these in chronological order on a timeline. In Science, we carried out an experiment using torches to demonstrate that light travels in straight lines. During guided reading, we read White Fang, where the children were introduced to a range of new vocabulary and tackled some challenging inference questions. It was also parents’ meetings this week, and it was lovely to speak with parents and share updates on the excellent progress the children are making.
