Al Sedra Infants - Week 1

Dear Parents,

Welcome back to a brand-new school year! We are delighted to welcome all our students and families, both familiar and new, to what promises to be an exciting and enriching year ahead here at The Gulf English Infant School.

The start of a new term is always full of energy, and we’ve already seen wonderful enthusiasm from the students as they settle into their new routines and classrooms.

This year, we are looking forward to a wide range of opportunities to connect and collaborate with you. We will be holding open days and parent workshops throughout the year to give you greater insight into your child’s learning and how you can support them at home. There will also be a number of community events and celebrations, providing a chance for us all to come together and strengthen the bonds within our school family.

Students can look forward to engaging school trips that will enrich their classroom learning, as well as a variety of extracurricular activities (ECAs) designed to support their interests and talents beyond the curriculum.

We are excited to partner with you in making this school year a positive, rewarding, and memorable experience for every student in our care.

Our First Week in Preschool!

What a wonderful first week we have had! It has been lovely welcoming the students into our Preschool and seeing them begin to settle into their new environment. The students enjoyed exploring our home corner, where they took part in imaginative role play, pretending to cook, care for babies, and look after one another.

We had lots of fun getting creative with painting, exploring colours, textures, and different ways to use our brushes. During our fine motor activities, the students practised strengthening their hands and developing hand-eye coordination through threading, picking up small objects, and simple tabletop activities.

Our movement sessions were full of smiles, dancing, actions, and lots of excitement. We also enjoyed playing with bubbles, watching them float, pop, and disappear while encouraging movement, coordination, and lots of laughter.

It has been a fantastic start to our preschool journey!

Welcome Back to Reception!

We have had a wonderful first week back at school in Reception! The students are settling in beautifully, becoming familiar with their new routines, and making lots of new friends. It has been lovely to see their confidence grow each day as they explore their new environment and enjoy learning together.

Our first topic is Nursery Rhymes, and this week we have been learning all about "Head, Shoulders, Knees and Toes." The students have loved singing the rhyme together and using actions to bring it to life. We have also enjoyed talking about different parts of the body and learning what each part does.

Alongside our singing and discussions, we have been busy taking part in a variety of fun activities linked to the rhyme, including role play, small-world play, and creative activities. It has been a fantastic week of learning, exploring, and getting to know one another.

Year 1: Welcome to Treasure Island!

It has been wonderful getting to know all of our new students this week, and we are so excited for the fun, adventures and learning that Year 1 has in store!

Our new topic is ‘Treasure Island’, and we have been learning all about pirates. In Writing, the students have been writing a list of things Pirate T would take with him to the island, using their phonics knowledge to help them spell words. In Maths, the students have been learning to recognise numerals and number words, developing their confidence with numbers.

Welcome Back to Year Two!

It has been an exciting first week back for Year Two, and the students have settled wonderfully into their new routines after the long summer break. We have started our new topic, ‘From A to B’, by exploring how different modes of transport have changed from the past to the present.

Just as in Year One, the students have begun learning the words and actions for our new text map, ‘How to Get Back Home’. In Numeracy, we have been recapping our number bonds and developing our confidence with key number skills.

The students have also enjoyed exploring their new Continuous Provision areas and engaging in a range of exciting activities. Through learning and play, they have been developing their communication skills, independence, creativity and ability to work collaboratively with others.
